Job Posting: Information Technology Support Technician
The West End Food Co-op is a non-profit multi-stakeholder food co-op in Toronto’s West End that combines innovative food programming around food and health with a Farmers’ Market, Community Cannery and a community owned Food Hub in the heart of Parkdale at Queen and Dufferin, slated to open in early 2011. The Food Hub will include a full-line retail food store, food education and health programming and a community kitchen.
Position Summary
In just a few years, the West End Food Co-op has made innovative, but practical use of technology to realize its many accomplishments. The co-op is hiring a part-time Information Technology Support Technician to support and lend continuity to the IT aspects of activities such as the maintenance of the website, membership database, e-mail system, social media, account security and backup, online event registration and payment, online fund-raising, online sales and delivery, point of sale system and an alternative currency card system.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with experienced IT professionals who will play a mentoring role (our ongoing co-op volunteers), as well as a board liaison, and the Co-op Coordinator. This position has the potential to evolve into the position of IT Coordinator and transition to a full-time staff position.
Qualifications:
This position is excellent for someone interested in being in on the ground-floor of an exceptional community initiative that seeks to develop a sustainable local food hub in Toronto’s West End. The ideal candidate will bring a diversity of skills and experience, an ability to work independently, and a proven ability to work co-operatively as part of an active team of staff or volunteers.
The ideal candidate will have some or all of the following:
- Educational achievements in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related fields
- Experience with open source software and a LAMP stack
- Experience with CiviCRM and Drupal
- Experience with cloud based infrastructure, security and administration
- Experience with IT hardware, network configuration and repair
- Experience with online marketing
- Experience managing volunteers
- Willingness to work in a democratic workplace (co-op experience an asset)
- Experience working in an economically, ethnically, culturally, racially diverse community
- organization
- Experience with sustainable food issues and food security
Compensation will be in the range of $18-$25 per hour depending on experience. Hours and
workplace are flexible. Working meetings will be held in Parkdale or at the WEFC Co-op Store near
Queen St. W. and Dufferin St., Toronto.
