Market News

Come to the Sorauren Farmers' Market to spend Family Day with the kids!  If the weather's appropriate, the skating rink will be open too.  Come for the friends and family, but stay for the food!  This week at the market, you can munch on fresh corn tortillas, mini-pizzas, soups, rotis and sandwiches, and much more.  You'll still find lots of cabbages, sprouts, potatoes, beets, winter greens, tofu, cheeses, bread, and all sorts of baked treats.

Deer Valley Farms is bringing breakfast sausages, perfect for the little ones.  And for more grown-up appetites, they have venison sausages in flavours like garlic, honey garlic, as well as elk sausages in italian and oktoberfest style.

And until Forbes Wild Foods returns, Growing Spaces will continue to bring local maple syrup to the market.  They also have tons of great pickles, jams, jellies, and preserves... delish!

There was an article published in The Star this past week which compares the health and safety regulations of farmers' markets and grocery stores.  An interesting read, Anne Freeman of the Dufferin Grove Farmers' Market points out that farmers who sell at markets are more meticulous about their products and since their livelihoods rely on satisfied customers, it is in their own best interest to have high standards.

Ece is leaving our family for more Canadian adventures, this time in her husband's home town of Montreal. More skating?!....  (continue reading)
