WEFC News

The next few weeks are your last chance to donate to the the Small Change Fund to support our social service workshops; these workshops are offered at subsidised rates to drop in centres and marginalized groups. Your support through this fund allows us to extend the community cannery to people living in poverty or other marginalized groups; recently donations have allowed us to do a series of workshop with Eva's Phoenix youth, a shelter that works with street-involved and at-risk youth.

Market News

Most of our vendors have moved inside to the fieldhouse this week, with the farmers downstairs and the prepared foods and other goodies upstairs, and still some more outside.  They have plenty of local goods for you to get this week.  Sumptious squashes, lucious leeks, gorgeous garlics, plump pears, peppers, and potatoes await you.

No time to make dinner after work on Monday?  Bring the family by the farmer's market and choose from ready-to-munch foods like mini pizzas, rotis, and sandwiches to fresh corn tortillas, raw wraps, and soups!  There's something for everyone, even picky eaters...

At the Cannery

We're in the news again!  WEFC's own canning expert James Partanen was interviewed about the Preserving Parkdale project for My Town Crier.  James talks about encouraging local food sustainability in Parkdale, and speaks to the multiple advantages of canning for all those involved - from the farmers to the canning participants...

“Not only do [the participants] know where the produce came from, but they know what ingredients went into it, so they have that much of an ability to dictate what they’re eating,” [Partanen] said. “And it’s inexpensive.”
