MARKET NEWS

Come celebrate Halloween and the Day of the Dead by getting your healthy, locally made treats from the Sorauren Farmer's Market!  Today is the last outdoor market day, as next week we will head inside to the fieldhouse and continue to keep warm throughout the winter with all of your favourite farmers and local foods.

The Day of the Dead (El Dia de los Muertos) is a Mexican tradition that celebrates our ancestors.  This day commemorates those who have passed on by decorating altars dedicated to loved ones, decorating skulls (calaveras), and sharing food with the community.  Come and learn more about these traditions while drinking authentic Mexican-style hot chocolate and enjoying fresh tortillas made from locally grown corn from ChocoSol.

Our vendors have scrumptious baked goods, artisanal sourdough breads, savoury selections and sweet treats... (maybe even a trick or two if you ask nicely)!  Bizjak Farms will be bringing Honey Crisp, Ambrosia, Courtland, Mutsu, Empire, MacIntosh, Spy and Gala apples as well as Bartlett and Bosc Pears, along with their fresh-pressed cider.  Our producers have venison, beef, pork, and chicken fresh from the farm, ready to serve you just the right cut.  We also have gluten-free and raw food goodies, winter squashes, carrots, kale, onions, potatoes, varieties of garlic from around the globe, greens galore, and so much more.

Some of our vendors are not going to be continuing on with us when our market transitions inside, so come and visit them while you can.  Le Tibet will be having their last week with us on Monday, so get your momos while they're hot!

Under the Canopy this week:

  • 3:30-5pm -  Moyo Rainos Mutamba - Enjoy Mutamba’s sweet Mbira and traditional music from Zimbabwe
At the Cannery

Our next preserving workshop is Tuesday November 8th - register now!  You don't want to miss this one, we'll be making spiced apple rings... yumm!

Remember you can support our ability to increase access to preserving with our community partners for those who wouldn’t otherwise afford to do so at Small Change Fund.
