Co-op update - Feb. 16, 2010
Well, what can we say? Given the neighbourhood I suppose it was no surprise that Family Day saw Sorauren Farmers Market with the best turn out in many months.
Thanks to everyone who came out and made the evening such a success. The weather was perfect for skating and we had plenty of hot chocolate/coffee and baked treats for tired skaters (parents and children alike).
Co-op volunteers dropped leaflets around the neighbourhood over the past week to remind people about the market as well as to let folks know we were planning a slient auction to help raise funds for the co-op.
Thanks very much to the individuals and businesses in the neighbourhood who donated the many wonderful goods and services featured in the silent auction. If you missed this one - don't worry! - We will be doing another silent auction in the Spring.
We also launched our fantastic bike delivery service. We are pleased to introduce our new partner: Courier Co-op (www.couriercoop.ca) This is part of our on-going commitment (as set out in #6 of the International Co-op Principles) to "cooperation among co-ops".
Co-operation among co-ops is one of the many ways in which co-ops keep our hard-earned dollars working within the local community. WEFC is working with other small, local and green enterprises to help build a network of community businesses working together to help build a stronger, better and more sustainable local economy.
Currently we are partnering with Toronto the Better - a resource network for local, progressive businesses.
However, building a stronger local economy starts with you! We can't make this happen without many community members and community dollars. So please, keep spreading the word. Encourage people to check out the web site, join the co-op and buy some bonds.
Thanks for all your support and see you all at the next Winter Market - March 15, 2010.
Onward and upward!
On behalf of the WEFC Board worker/owners - John Richmond.
