Savour the taste of summer... learn to make your own homemade Tomato Sauce, and can it to keep on your shelf to eat local all year round!

Learn to make homemade Tomato Sauce from scratch!  Our Co-op Kitchen and Cannery team will lead you through the history and theory of preserving techniques, processing local saucing/paste tomatoes, building flavour in your sauce, and canning using a hot water bath canner. The workshop is 3 hours in length. Included in the workshop are all ingredients, jars, recipes, and more. You will learn the lifetime skill of how to make and safely preserve homemade tomato sauce, easily replicable at home!

This Tomato Sauce Workshop Takes Place at:

  • Our Co-op Kitchen, inside West End Food Co-op at 1229 Queen Street West (Toronto, ON  M6K 1L2)


Please bring to this workshop:

  • Your favourite apron
  • A hat, bandana, or hair-elastic (if applicable)
  • Closed-toed shoes


The cost of this workshop is:

  • WEFC Member Price: $50
  • Non-member Price: $55 (includes lifetime membership to WEFC)


You get to leave this workshop with:

  • Knowledge of food security, WEFC as a food co-op, preserving history and techniques behind processing tomatoes
  • Hands-on skills covering how to can tomatoes and make tomato sauce from scratch, safe canning techniques, and seasoning your sauce just right
  • Having spent an evening with new friends, co-op members, and neighbourhood folks learning new skills together
  • Jars of local, freshly made tomato sauce to fill your pantry


This workshop is best suited for those who:

  • are beginners at canning
  • have never made tomato sauce before
  • want to learn a new skill and take home a few jars of delicious tomato sauce
